Proving BactoSense’s impact:

bNovate’s microbial technology

Who we helped

bNovate Technologies is a Swiss water technology company changing microbial water quality monitoring. Its BactoSense technology provides automated microbial analysis in under 20 minutes, replacing traditional lab methods that can take up to five days. The technology helps utilities monitor water quality in near real time, improving operational confidence and public health.

Challenges

bNovate was ready to share its role in one of Europe’s first direct potable reuse (DPR) projects from municipal wastewater at the Water Production Centre in Hofstade, Belgium.

We needed to position BactoSense as a critical part of the wider announcement story, proving why real-time microbial monitoring is essential for the future of water reuse while building credibility with utilities, regulators and industry leaders.

The communications needed to:

Position the Hofstade project as a landmark for European water reuse.

Explain the value of real-time microbial monitoring in an accessible way.

Build long-term thought leadership around direct potable reuse.

What we did

Our comprehensive approach included:

  1. Editorial development: after reviewing existing assets and conducting interviews with the core bNovate team, we produced three editorial assets: a media-ready press release, longer case study and also a feature-length whitepaper on the broader topic of water reuse across Europe.
  2. PR & media outreach: Developed the press release, created event press materials and conducted targeted outreach to leading international water publications around the Global Water Summit, IFAT and Singapore International Water Week.
  3. Social media campaign: Created a supporting LinkedIn campaign, including announcement posts, technical explainers and event content that amplified the story beyond the initial launch.
  4. Thought leadership: Developed a technical whitepaper exploring the future of direct potable reuse in Europe, positioning bNovate’s leadership team as trusted voices on microbial monitoring and water reuse.

Results

The campaign successfully positioned bNovate at the centre of the conversation around direct potable reuse, demonstrating how rapid microbial monitoring can support the next generation of water reuse projects across Europe.

Campaign Highlights

We secured:

  • Homepage feature in WaterWorld highlighting Europe’s first municipal direct potable reuse project.
  • Coverage in Water & Wastewater Asia and feature placement on BlueTech Research.
  • BlueNotes podcast spotlight exploring the future of direct potable reuse and microbial monitoring.
  • Technical thought leadership article developed with Dr. Luigino Grasso, CTO, strengthening bNovate’s position as an authority in water reuse.
  • A coordinated campaign across PR, thought leadership and social media that amplified the role of BactoSense, demonstrating how microbial testing times can be reduced from around five days to under 20 minutes.
